----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Dear art librarians, especially catalogers and database maintainers, I thought you all might be interested in this recent exchange on the heading for the Parsons collection at L.A. Ralph M. Parsons ... Sherman: I agree. I have deleted the authority record and revised the bibliographic record to make the main entry heading the museum itself and an added entry for the foundation. Ralph M. Parsons Foundation photography collection" - n99-253788 This heading is wierd, it seems to me. First, if the collection is named, the capitalization is odd. Furthermore, if it's named, why should it be entered indirectly under the museum? I would argue however that it should not even be established as an independent entity. The foundation is the funder of the collection, not the collector. Normally, I don't think we'd (this "we" being art catalogers) call it a named collection the same way a collection founded by a person or body and then given to a public institution might be established. I would appreciate it if you would look at this heading again. Thanks.
