HIGH MUSEUM OF ART LIBRARIAN
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Environment: The High Museum of Art (Atlanta, GA) --- a dynamic institution
with one of the premier art collections in the Southeast  -- seeks a
Librarian to oversee all operations associated with a collection of
approximately 15,000 books, periodicals, art auction catalogs, and over
8,000 artist vertical files.  Working under broad direction, the High Museum
of Art Librarian reports to the museum's Chair of Education.    The HMA
Librarian also works closely with the professional staff of the Atlanta
College of Art Library, a sister art library with a collection of
approximately 25,000 books.  The High is located on the Woodruff Arts Center
campus and is in the process of planning a museum expansion to be designed
by world-renowned architect, Renzo Piano.
Responsibilities:  Plan and deliver access, reference, research, and
instructional services, both traditional and electronic, to museum staff,
docents, and members.  Establish and communicate policies regarding library
services and use of the library facility.  Develop and implement long-range
library goals.   Develop, administer, and maintain library budget accounts
and fiscal records.

Select and acquire appropriate materials for the museum's library.
Participate in the library exchange program.  Supervise the acquisition,
cataloging, and technical processing for all acquired library material.
Implement and maintain a new automated catalog and circulation system
(Endeavor's Voyager system) in conjunction with the Atlanta College of Art
Library.

Supervise library interns and volunteers. Establish and maintain
professional relationships with the library community in Georgia and with
art museum libraries nationwide.   Participate in professional associations
and conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires an MLS from an ALA-accredited institution and some
knowledge of the art history field (undergraduate or graduate degree in art
history preferred).  Minimum of 2 years of experience in an academic or
museum library.   Ability to work independently with little supervision.
Strong research and reference skills.

Experience with electronic resources in the field of art, art history, and
bibliography preferred.  Computer proficiency essential, including knowledge
of automated library systems, online bibliographic utilities(especially
OCLC), and a NT/Windows environment.

Strong analytical, oral and written communication skills.  Experience with
departmental budget preparation, and a thorough knowledge of cataloging
principles and procedures, including AACR2, USMARC, LCSH, preferred.
Working knowledge of 2 or more Western European languages desired.
