----------------------------Original message---------------------------- June 2, 2000 The Visual Resources Association Data Standards Committee is pleased to announce the release of the VRA Core Categories, Version 3.0. All of the concepts found in the VRA Core 2.0 have been retained, and in many instances, expanded in Core 3.0. The major difference between Core 2.0 and Core 3.0 is the conflation of the Work and the Visual Document element sets into a single set that can be used to create records to describe both works of visual culture and the images that document them. Several new categories have been added, several have been reworked, and many of them have been expanded and refined through the use of element qualifiers. This new release represents a work-in-progress. Work yet to be completed includes mapping to other standards and inclusion of more examples.
