This extraordinary festschrift is a tribute to Wallace Kirsop, founder and
president of the Bibliographical Society of Australia and New Zealand. It
features thirty-five scholarly essays from distinguished international =
authors.
Each essay focuses on the important social role of the book in the
culture of its day. Beginning with such diverse subjects as the book in
sixteenth-century alchemy, famous British booksellers, to the modern book
trade in Australia and New Zealand, each essay is well-written by
contributors who are among the who's who in bibliographical academia. Other
essays explore French literary criticism, unusual first editions and
literary history.
This unique tribute also contains a comprehensive bibliography of
Kirsop's publications. Twenty-nine of the thirty-eight essays are in
English, the other nine are written in French. Distributed for the
Bibliographical Society of Australia and New Zealand.
