----------------------------Original message---------------------------- College Library Assistant - (currently PT appointment (25hr/wk), with potential for FT in the near future) Responsibilities encompass library support for public and technical services. Principal duties include: opening and/or closing the library; cataloging; assisting patrons in the selection and use of library materials and computers, and equipment; staffing circulation services; assisting with library acquisition of books, periodicals and visual resources; and other duties related to the provision of library services. This is an entry-level supervisory position involving the oversight of assigned departmental functions and supervision of student assistants, volunteers, or interns, as appropriate. Experience with OCLC, Dewey Decimal Classification, and cataloging with Integrated Library systems preferred. Knowledge or background in Art History or Studio Arts helpful. The abilities to balance multiple duties and work well independently and as part of a team are essential to succeeding in this position. Qualifications include: Undergraduate degree (preferably BA) or equivalent combination of LTA training and experience; work experience, preferably in an automated library; knowledge of web design, database, spreadsheet, and word processing software; strong communication skills and willingness to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends as library or campus activities necessitate.
