The Fine Arts Library includes holdings of more than 175,000 volumes, 1200 current serial subscriptions, and a wide range of electronic resources. It serves the research and instructional needs of faculty, graduate and undergraduate students in architecture, fine arts, city and regional planning, art history, landscape architecture, design and environmental analysis, and historic preservation. White continuing to emphasize the importance of traditional formats, the Cornell Fine Arts Library is actively committed to the support and promotion of digital collections and services, including the expansion of its consortial endeavors with museums and other fine arts collections. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general direction of the Fine Arts Librarian, the individual in this position is responsible for collection development, for administering the library's instruction program, and for reference services in the fine arts and related fields, as listed above. In cooperation with others at Cornell and nationally, he or she will contribute to the development of new digital projects and services in the fine arts. All librarians at Cornell are expected to actively participate in appropriate professional associations and activities. REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited master's degree in library/information science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Subject expertise and/or undergraduate degree in one of the following subjects: art or architectural history, architecture, fine arts, arts administration, historic preservation, or planning. Working knowledge of bibliographic and reference tools in the fine arts and related fields. Demonstrated ability to contribute to digital initiatives and to work effectively with a diverse clientele. Successful teaching and/or library instruction experience. Awareness of issues and trends in collection development and public services in art and architecture librarianship. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Active participation in professional associations and/or relevant publications. PREFERRED: Five or more years professional experience in an academic or research library, specializing in Fine Arts. Graduate degree in one of the above disciplines. Background in related fields in the humanities or social sciences. Reading knowledge of one or more Western European languages. Advanced training applicable to the development of digital initiatives.
