Alexander Stille in his article "Resurrecting Alexandria: Can rebuilding the
great library also redeem the city?" (The New Yorker, May 8, 2000) states
that "Librarians now must master immensely complicated and expensive
information systems and understand fibre-optic cables, server networks,
software formats, and audiovisual systems, among other things." And I still
have trouble adding toner to the photocopier!
