AMERICAN CRAFT COUNCIL
LIBRARY DIRECTOR


The American Craft Council, the premier organization dedicated to
raising awareness and appreciation of contemporary American craft in
all media, seeks a Library Director.

The American Craft Council publishes the magazine American Craft,
annually operates major craft shows in nine cities throughout the
United States, produces an annual awards event and other educational
programming, and runs a library of
contemporary American craft. The library responds to the information
needs of the Council's 28,000 members and others with an interest in
craft.

The library offers a comprehensive collection of print and visual
information on American craft, with an emphasis beginning in the
1940's. The collections comprise over 5,000 books, more than 4,500
exhibition catalogs, 250 periodicals
and newsletters, and additional resource files and visual media. While
focused on modern craft, the collections also support research in the
related fields of design and applied and decorative arts. The library
is a member of the Metropolitan New York Library Council.

Qualifications include: ALA-accredited MLS, with an undergraduate
degree in Art History, Decorative Arts, or a related discipline. 3
years of relevant experience, preferably in an academic library,
subject department in a large public library,
or in a museum or other art library. Expertise in reference and
collection development. Some familiarity with cataloging and archives
desirable. Skill in using electronic information tools and
computerized library systems. Excellent interpersonal
and communications skills. Ability to work independently and also as
part of a team.
Minimum salary: $45,000.
