Colleagues: Perhaps because of the ConnAP (Connecticut Artists
Project) database under construction here at the Art & Design
Library at the University of Connecticut, we have found that we need
information on artists when they migrate from one part of the
United States to another. We know of some large documentation
projects such as those in Ohio (a number of CT artists migrated to
Ohio), California, Illinois, Texas, and Massachusetts, but are there
other more modest (Arizona) or even large projects around the United
States that we don't know about? Some projects have print
publications, but how are they being updated or enlarged?

What about the large populous states that have or had regional
documentation (Southern vs Northern California?) that is now
perhaps out of date----who do we contact or where do we go for the
such documentation. How do city artist projects fit into the
state project mix? What about state artist commissions databases
for contemporary artists? How do we mesh the "who is who" artists
with the "who was who" artists? Are state artist projects only for
historical "who was who" artists? Are there, or should
there be, state coordinators for such projects?

Perhaps an ARLIS/NA hosted website bringing all these projects
together under each state name would be enough, or do we also need a
session on state artist documentation projects underway in the United
States? Do we need a session on Southern California artist projects
to kick-off such a web resource?

I think I am willing to work on such a session or help with the
thought process on what we might like included in an ARLIS/NA
website on state artist projects. Does anyone else in ARLIS/NA land
want to help with such an effort? Just testing the water!
