----------------------------Original message---------------------------- The January 2000 issue of Information standards quarterly (published by NISO) has a dense report on the "Electronic Thesauri" workshop held in Washington in November 1999. Though the discussions are tightly summarized in bullet-fashion, there is considerable stuff to think about, e.g. how do vocabularies interact, using a controlled vocabulary in a controlled way (it isn't just the words though that's important), common ground without dumbing down. This publication can be ordered online from http://www.niso.org for $25 for the PDF file. David Austin is the ARLIS rep to NISO. I can't remember if he mentioned this meeting to ARLIS-L and/or VRA-L. Meanwhile, I found the report of the meeting thought-provoking and figured I'd pass on the citation.
