----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Artnet.com's Fine Art Auctions Database is probably the most popular of the several indexes of sales results that we have in electronic form. The inclusion of images and very up-to-date information (lots are frequently entered before the sale is held) seem to give it an edge over other, even more established indexes. (We also have, online or CD-ROM, Mayer, Leonard's, ADEC, Artfact, I-on-Art Old Master Paintings at Auction, and the Australian Art Sales Digest.) They're pretty well marketed and heavily advertised, so many of the dealers who use our library are already familiar with it, and even have their own accounts. Artnet's coverage is at least as comprehensive as the other international indexes, and probably better for U.S. sales than ADEC and Mayer. We have also had intermittent problems with their database, including login problems and retrieval of the wrong results set,and their customer service dept has ot been much help. I've generally been able to get what I need by trying over again, either with "reload" from the browser or by exiting from their site and starting over. Overall though I haven't found it to be any more unreliable or glitchy than the other sales databases. As long as we're on the topic, does anyone have an opinion on the Art Sales Index or Gordon's Print Price Annual CD-ROMs? (reliability, coverage, interface...) I recently spoke with an art dealer who absolutely loves it and highly recommended it. Kathy Kathryn L. Corcoran Head Librarian Milton R. and Pauline S.
