Many Thanks, Mary Graham Job No. 17816 Classified Staff Job Title: Library Specialist, Pay Grade: 23 Department: Arizona State Museum (ASM) Salary: $25,000 annually Benefits: Yes Hours: 40 per week Opening: 4/6/00 Closing: 4/27/00 Position Summary: The Library Specialist is a specialized position responsible for performing duties that support library data and public services. This position has primary responsibility for the creation of bibliographic records and technical services, and for assisting with public service. In addition, the incumbent will participate in the development of the ASM Information Suite and the Collections Information System. The incumbent may assume responsibility of the Library in the absence of the Museum Librarian and the Library Specialist, Senior. Duties and Responsibilities: Oversees retrospective conversion of collection: uses CatExpress, an OCLC product to search, edit, and download bibliographic records titles currently in Dewey Decimal classification, Tozzer Library subject headings, and available only in paper records. Original and copy cataloging: employs recognized standards such as Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, the MARC format, Library of Congress classification and subject headings, and OCLC guidelines. Public service: assists with reference and research assistance, tours, bibliographic instruction, donor forms. Collection assessment: works with Librarian and Library Specialist, Senior, develops guidelines to assess strengths and weaknesses of collection; deaccession and properly dispose of items. Supervision: may assist with supervision and training of library volunteers, interns, and student employee. May be responsible for opening and closing the library, security of reading room. ASM service: participates in Divisional activities and Museum committees. Participates in CAZMAL (Consortium of Arizona Archives, Museums, and Libraries) initiatives, meetings, and projects. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and one year related library experience; OR, Five years related library experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by the Human Resources Department. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with anthropological literature. Familiarity with Spanish. Working knowledge of library practices and procedures. Working knowledge of cataloging rules, regulations and resources. Working knowledge of a variety of automated library systems. Working knowledge and skill in the usage of various research methodologies. Skill in the use of various reference interviews and sources. Ability to communicate effectively.
