The University of Oregon invites applications and nominations for the
position of Head, Architecture =26 Allied Arts Library (AAA Library).  The
Library is seeking experienced applicants with excellent leadership and
interpersonal skills.  The AAA Library includes holdings of more than
75,000 volumes, 470 journals and serials, and an extensive Visual Resources
Collection.  It serves the research and instructional needs of graduate and
undergraduate degree programs in art history, fine and applied arts, arts
and administration, architecture, interior architecture, landscape
architecture, historic preservation=3B and planning, public policy, and
management.  Special strengths include art and architectural history, East
Asian art, artists' books, and environmental design.  The AAA Library has 6
FTE and several student assistants.

The University of Oregon is an ARL library serving over 17,000
undergraduate and graduate students and 760 full-time and 430 part-time
faculty members.  Its 2.3 million-volume collection serves as an important
research facility for scholars throughout the Northwest.  The Library is
host site to Orbis, a consortium of fifteen colleges and universities in
Oregon and Washington with a shared catalog.

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has oversight responsibilities for
administrative, reference, instructional, and access services. Works
closely with the Head of Collection Development in building the collections
in art and architecture and managing the acquisitions budget. Develops and
administers policies for the AAA Library.  In cooperation with the library
administration and other department heads, and in consultation with the
School of Architecture and Allied Arts Library Committee, develops both
short-range and long-range goals and objectives.  Supervises 2.0 FTE
professional librarians and 2.0 FTE staff.  All library faculty members are
encouraged to be professionally active through involvement in regional and
national associations and/or research and publication.  This position is a
member of the Public Services =26 Collections Division and reports to the
Associate University Librarian.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in library and/or
information science=3B a degree in at least one of the following subjects:
architecture, landscape architecture, or related disciplines=3B urban and
regional planning=3B art history=3B arts and administration=3B fine and =
applied
arts. Substantial experience with art and/or architecture collections in an
academic or research library.  Successful supervisory experience and
demonstrated leadership qualities.  Demonstrated skill in planning,
organizing, and coordinating the work of others.  Awareness of national and
international issues and trends in arts and architecture.  Excellent oral
and written communication skills.  Record of achievement in national
professional associations and/or publications.  Desired: Graduate degree in
one of the above disciplines=3B reading knowledge of at least one Western
European language.

SALARY:  =2448,000 minimum, depending on prior experience and =
qualifications.
 Oregon offers one of the best benefit packages in the country, with a wide

paid by the institution, so there is no employee deduction.  Retirement
plans include a choice of either: TIAA/CREF, PERS, or optional retirement

Cross/Blue Shield or HMO options).  Vacation is accrued at the rate of 15
hours per month, sick leave at 8 hours per month.  Low staff tuition rates
are available for employees for continuing education.  Funding and release
time may be provided for participation in conferences and other
professional development opportunities.

EMPLOYMENT: Librarians hold academic faculty status with rank, non-tenured.
 Fixed-term renewable contract (two or three years), depending on rank.
Professional growth and service in keeping with university and library
standards for promotion, retention, and merit is expected.
