Robert Pinsky, U.S. Poet Laureate will read from his new collection of
poems, Jersey Rain.

Thursday, February 17, 7:30 PM
A reading by Lynne Tillman and Edmund White. Lynne Tillman is the
author of No Lease on Life and Bookstore: The Life and Times of
Jeannette Watson and Books and Co. Edmund White is the author of
Marcel Proust: A Penguin Life and the forthcoming book The Married
Man.

The opening of the exhibition =22Beautiful: The Writing of Dennis
Cooper=22 and the publication of Cooper=92s new novel Period (Grove Press)
will be marked by a two-day celebration of the writer and his works.

The celebration will open on Thursday, March 2, 6:30 p.m. at the NYU
Fales Library with a panel of noted critics of contemporary culture
including NYU Professor Avital Ronell, Michael Warner from Rutgers
University, author of Fear of a Queer Planet=3B Leora Lev from
Bridgewater State  College, and Bruce Hainley, contributing editor to
Artforum.  They will turn their critical gaze on the serious
achievements Cooper has made with his quintology and with his work as
a poet, editor and cultural critic.

On Friday, March 3, 6:30 p.m., a group of Cooper's friends and fellow
writers will read from his work.  Participating in this event will be
Stephen Malkmus from the band =22Pavement=3B=22 Thurston Moore of =22Sonic
Youth=22, authors Bret Easton Ellis and Lynne Tillman, and artist Robert
Gober.

The exhibition of materials drawn from the Dennis Cooper Papers will
be on display in the Tracey/Barry Gallery (Bobst Library, Third Floor)
March 3 - April 28, 2000.

Nicholas Christopher and Edward Hirsch
Nicholas Christopher=92s novel A Trip to the Stars, and his most recent
collection of poems, Atomic Fields, will appear this spring. Edward
Hirsch is the author most recently of the volume of poems, On Love,
and also, How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love With Poetry.
