VISUAL RESOURCES CURATOR
DEPARTMENT OF ART
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
The Department of Art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
is seeking a service-oriented,
innovative visual resources specialist who can contribute sound
expertise and a strong sense of direction
to the department's evolving needs in the field of visual
documentation. The Visual Resources Curator is
responsible for managing and staffing an analog slide collection and an
archival photograph collection, in
consultation with the art history and studio art faculty who make use of
them in their teaching and
research; for training and scheduling hourly personnel; for performing
collection development and
maintenance duties for visual resources; for planning and developing
digital access to visual resources,
incorporating cutting-edge imaging technology, and technology-based
information systems; for providing
reference services and research assistance to users in support of the
art department's curriculum and
student and faculty scholarship; for providing instruction in the use
and evaluation of visual information
resources and systems; and for representing the Department of Art's
interests to other institutional
programs concerned with the development of visual resources.
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of
relevant experience working in a visual
resources collection containing slides. Preferred: Background in art
history and graduate work in it or in
a closely related discipline. Copy photography experience. Working
knowledge of major online
information services, scanning and imaging systems, multimedia software,
MAC, HTML, and Windows
applications and Internet structure and access.
Ability to assess and integrate appropriate complex and rapidly evolving
technologies into the collection
and instructional program. Grant-writing skills and/or other evidence
of creativity in the implementation
of new initiatives.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a
12-month appointment, effective
