----------------------------Original message---------------------------- At UCSD, we keep erotic photography in locked compact shelving with a "controlled circulation" designation. Faculty and grad students can check books out for shorter than normal time periods, undergrads & non-affiliated must look at the books in a supervised room. It is a pain, but we too had to deal with so much mutilation, there was no other option. As to deciding which books get put in con circ, any book with even one potentially salacious image gets put there. There is a rather blunt description of this policy, based on body parts! We are also clear to point out that we are not trying to censor the material but rather keep the materials locked up for *the materials* own protection. Some students are sensitive about this issue and resent the fact that these books have to be requested. Once they are told why, they seem to accept it. csj >Dearest Colleagues, > >I know this topic has been discussed on the list before, but I could not >find it >in the List archives.
