Vacancy Announcement
Library Technician (Student Assistant, Circulation)

The National Gallery of Art Library is seeking applicants for a student
assistant position in the Circulation Department of the Reader Services
Section.The primary purpose of the position is to assist with a variety of
operations at the circulation desk.

Duties include retrieving, shelving, and shifting library materials, assisting
circulation desk staff with shelf reading and office inventories, preparing
photocopies, answering the circulation desk telephone, and assisting
with maintenance of circulation records and files.

Applicants should have a basic knowledge of library circulation
procedures and a general understanding of classification schemes
(Library of Congress preferred); familiarity with the operation of personal
computers; an ability to type and file accurately and to work
cooperatively with other staff members and readers.

In order to qualify for this position, applicants must be registered at least
as a half-time student, and be able to provide certification of student
status, including a current class schedule. Students usually work a
maximum of 20 hours per week while classes are in session, but the
student's work schedule should not interfere with the student's
academic schedule.  Full-time employment is available during summer and
semester breaks. The incumbent earns sick and annual leave based on
the amount of hours worked.
