Art Libraries Society of North America
Internship Award

The Art Libraries Society of North America announces its first Internship
Award. ARLIS/NA has established an endowment fund that will provide
financial support for students preparing for a career in art librarianship
or visual resource curatorship. Recognizing that practical experience is one
of the most useful educational tools, this award will provide $1000.00 to
support a
period of internship in an art library or visual resources collection for
the recipient.

Who May Apply

Students currently enrolled in or recent graduates [within one year] of a
graduate program in library science, art history, studio art or museum
studies may apply for the award.

Internship Description

Once an award recipient has been selected, he or she will receive a list of
approved host institutions from which the recipient will select a site of
interest. If an award recipient is interested in interning at a particular
institution, they are encouraged to ask that institution to apply for
inclusion on the list of host institutions. ARLIS/NA is not responsible for
matching candidates with a host institution.

The first Internship Award will be granted for the Summer or Fall 2000
academic session. The intern will work on-site a minimum of 10 hours per
week to complete a total of at least 150 hours.

The intern, the internship supervisor, and the student's academic advisor
(if applicable) will complete evaluations of the internship experience.
Evaluation forms will be provided by the Professional Development Committee.

The ARLIS/NA Internship Award will provide a stipend up to $1000.00 to the
intern. Half of the award will be granted prior to the internship, with the
remainder granted upon completion of the internship and receipt of a letter
signed by the Internship supervisor and intern stating the 150 hours has
been completed to the Chair of the Professional Development Committee. The
award recipient will also receive a one year membership in ARLIS/NA at the
student level.
