Reader Services, Interlibrary Loan

The National Gallery of Art Library seeks applicants for a full-time,
privately funded term appointment lasting for two years.  The position is
located on the Deputy Director's staff, in the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) office
of the Reader Services Department.

DUTIES:
Major duties include reviewing ILL requests received online (via
bibliographic networks such as RLIN and OCLC) and by mail; retrieving
materials and preparing circulation information for items to be loaned;
preparing shipments and related forms; verifying bibliographic information
in online and printed catalogs; processing returns of borrowed materials
and monitoring the status of outstanding requests; assisting with
procedures to ensure timely return of borrowed and loaned materials;
and assisting with the maintenance of ILL files.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must meet the Qualifications Standards Handbook for
GS-1411-05; this requires either 4 years of education above the high
school level OR at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to
the GS-04 level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is
experience involving the organization and maintenance of library
records.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
As of December 14, 1999, the salary range including the locality pay
adjustment for the Washington DC metropolitan area is $22,208-$28,868
per annum. An average increase of 4.8% is expected in early January
2000.[ Approved salary tables reflecting that change have not yet been
issued.]

The selected candidate will be eligible for Federal health and life
insurance coverage and sick/annual leave accrual. **Conversion to a
TF-1411-06 appointment may be given based on the selected candidate's
performance.**

Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will
be evaluated against these factors to determine the best qualified
candidates. Applicants are strongly encouraged to describe their

EVALUATION FACTORS:
1. Knowledge of bibliographic searching procedures and their
relationship to all aspects of ILL work (SELECTIVE FACTOR)

2. Knowledge of bibliographic databases such as VTLS, RLIN, and OCLC
(SELECTIVE FACTOR)

3. Familiarity with at least one Western European language other than
English (i.e. French, Italian, and/or German)

4. Familiarity with art history
