----------------------------Original message----------------------------
ARLIS/NA members,

As some of you may know, I have been appointed to take over for Lee
Sorensen as Chair of the ARLIS/NA Web Site Administrative Board. The
purpose of the board will be to see to the current and future state of the
ARLIS/NA Web Site and to coordinate these things with the Executive Board
and ADI, our management company. With this in mind, I wanted to share a
few pointers with all of you regarding the AWS.

I.
There have been questions regarding who does what on the AWS. I'm going to
clarify this information for everyone right now. The key people you need
to know are:

Sean Percival ([log in to unmask]) - Send Sean all of your files for
the AWS, as well as any corrections and/or changes to the AWS.

Jeff Messecar ([log in to unmask]) - Send Jeff questions and comments
regarding the special lists created by ADI for the Executive Board,
problems and concerns with online registration for conferences or other
forms, and issues related to the search engine for AWS.

Roberto C. Ferrari ([log in to unmask]) - Contact me if you have any
questions or ideas regarding the structure and/or future setup of the AWS.

Other individuals associated with the AWSAB include Lee Sorensen, Paula
Hardin, Sam Duncan, Mary Graham, Howard Adler, Cindy Percival, and Peter
Blank [effective 3/20/00, liaison with Executive Board].

II.
There has been concern from some members about the turnaround time when
files are sent to Sean for uploading. After speaking with Sean, he assures
me that under normal circumstances, if you give him 24 hours, the file will
be uploaded. Exceptions to this might include pages that need to be
adjusted for HTML, design-related issues, etc. In most cases, the files
will be loaded in the same day, but always allow for 24 hours.

III.
When submitting files to Sean for uploading, please be sure that they are
already in HTML format. This is the preferred format, as it makes life
much easier. Sean will also accept files in Word format, assuming they are
basic text files such as minutes from meetings, reports, or other textual
documents. ADI is not responsible for designing web pages for the
membership, so it is important that members are submitting formatted pages.

IV.
And on a kind of aside, I thought I'd share a little tidbit of advice that
has nothing to do with this, but may effect some of you out there using
Netscape Communicator. We've discovered here at FAU that just clicking on
"Reload" doesn't actually reload a page anymore. Supposedly it is not
reading the page from the cache memory either, but rather misinterpreting
the two-digit dates on files that are being posted as being earlier than
those from 1999 (yes! an actualy Y2K problem it seems!). None of this has
been officially decided as a definite computer glitch, but we discovered
that by clicking on "Shift+'Reload'" the page will reload from your server.
Just some friendly advice if you can use it!

Roberto
