----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Here in the Witt Library we have colour photocopy and scanning facilities. Scanning is offered to students only and colour photocopying to both students & public. In both instances we offer assistance. Some students - largely to save money ( we charge for colour photocopies - with discount for students) will spend their own time scanning - but usually taking more of our time as well in training etc - printed results from our equipment are rarely as good as the colour photocopier - and scanned image files often too large for customers to easily take away on disc - If we provided scanned images for public we would also have to have stock of discs for them - plus few would have zip drives or similar for storage of several image files. Most of our public customers would be unfamiliar with the equipment and software and would require "lots" of hand holding. Also there is risk of copyright problems - image files taken away could then be manipulated - as compared with simple photocopying taken under standard fair use rules.
