Greetings!
Two of our students have been assigned to find a Native American art object
illustrated in a collections catalog from any museum in New York City. The
catch is that they have to look at the catalog entry and the accompanying
illustration, then go to the museum and study the object in situ, on
display. The object must be also be North American. The Purchase College
library has very little in this area (we've rarely taught the subejct
here). I've searched OCLC WorldCat, but haven't turned up much -- only a
1982 catalog of painting in the National Museum of the American Indian.
The Met's holdings seem to focus on Mesoamerican and South American art.
I couldn't find an appropriate catalog for the Museum of Natural History's
Native American collections.
So I'm throwing this conundrum out to the ARLIS list, and am hoping that
the collective wisdom of its members can help me (and the students) find a
solution -- if possible, by tomorrow. Please reply to me at: mcsmith@pu

Thanks in advance,
