Hello,
I wonder if anyone on this list has had experience with a library
being
changed from a two full time person library to one?
The CMNH library is primarily for the support of the scientific staff
but
is available to the public and to members for research or reading.
(Materials do not circulate.)
I have several very reliable volunteers but am still not able to
cover all
the hours that the library is open when, for instance, I am
attending
meetings or on vacation or am retrieving books from the local
university
libraries. We don't have heavy traffic here but invariably when I
leave to
run an errand someone turns up and finds the door locked.(Currently
we are
open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 5:00.)
So I
am trying to select some more reasonable hours to cover. (For
example
perhaps be only open to the public in the afternoons so there is free
time
in the morning to attend to duties that require leaving the
building.) The
library has always been open on Saturdays but that is a day that it
seems
impossible to get a volunteer.
Could folks who have handled a similar problem or who have
suggestions
please write to me off list? I was wondering how many small museum
libraries might only be open to researchers by appointment?
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you very much,
Joy
