JOB TITLE: UNIX Systems Administrator
DEPARTMENT: Visual Arts Library (Endeavor Voyager site) and MFA Design
REPORTS TO: Director of Academic Computing
POSITION OVERVIEW: Provide daily support for two fully networked
computer labs which include SGI, Sun, NT and Macintosh equipment, and
provide technical support and assistance to all faculty members and
staff.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Library and MFA Design
computers, which include SGI servers, Sun servers, NT workstations, Mac
workstations and Media 100
Maintain Mac and NT peripherals
Maintain and configure 10/100 Base-T and GB networks
Oversee development and maintenance of user accounts
Oversee systems administration of departmental servers
Handle installing and upgrading all software packages and OS patches
Assist in the configuration, set-up and troubleshooting of any other
systems in the labs, including Macintosh, Windows 95, Windows NT
workstations, Sun servers and SGI servers
Maintain functionality for all workstations, including individual
support, instruction and assistance for all faculty and staff
Attend weekly systems administrators' meetings, lab assistant meetings,
staff meetings and monthly school-wide systems administrators' meetings
Recommend and specify hardware/software purchases to department heads
and Director of Academic Computing
Stay abreast of trends in computer technology
QUALIFICATIONS:
3+ years UNIX (any flavor) proficiency - solid understanding of UNIX in
a networked environment
2+ years experience with Sun or SGI systems administration and data
management
3+ years experience with Networking, Internet and Intranet set-up
1-2 years experience with MacOS
1-2 years experience with NT
Oracle, SQL and C programming language a plus
Library experience a plus
Digital Video, Video and Audio experience a plus
Enthusiastic team player
