Subject: Re: Recall: notice for GLIRT members
I am troubled by Mr Hartill's message that seems to imply that GLIRT, an established ARLIS/NA Round
Table, is sexist and should not be posting notices to ARLIS-L. I encourage anyone who is not aware of
what GLIRT does to read the charge in the current directory, or on the ARLIS web page--and to take note
of the thoughtful and provocative conference programming it has sponsored over the past years.
ARLIS/NA is committed to diversity, and has made explicit that commitment by establishing and
supporting the Ad Hoc Diversity Committee.
If I have somehow misconstrued Mr. Hartill's meaning, I apologize. I lived in Colorado during the
passage and repeal of Amendment 2, and in Laramie when Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered last
October for being gay. I believe that "gay" issues are fundamentally much less about sex or sexism
than they are about civil rights and humanity.
