THE RIVER (1937, 26 min.)
Two dramatic stories of the rape of the land by
industrialization and the National Recovery
Administration's (NRA) rescue efforts. Both films
were written and directed by the award-winning
cinematographer Pare Lorentz.
Wednesday, December 2, 1998 -- 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
THE NEW FRONTIER (1934, 11 min.)
Directed by H.B. McClure, the film gives a forthright
view of an experimental "Rural Cooperative" sponsored
by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA).
POWER AND THE LAND (1940, 38 min.)
With commentary by Stephen Vincent Benet and directed
by Joris Ivens, this film depicts the struggle to
convince the utility companies to bring electricity to
rural areas of the country.
