Greetings to all.
On the topic of finding images on the web, I'd be interested in
hearing what specific search strategies people use within the
various search engines to locate reproductions.
For example, and as a first contribution--if I were looking for
a reproduction of the Mona Lisa, I'd do the following:
Go to AltaVista, use the advanced search mode, use the boolean
expression box, and type something like
+"Mona Lisa" and +"Leonardo da Vinci" and (reproduction or
image or picture) and .jpg
This strategy gets OK results, especially if I search for "greatest
hits" works. (I just tried Velasquez's Las Meninas, Durer's
St. Jerome and the above Mona Lisa and got 3 out of 3 relatively
quickly.) However, I'm always looking for new and better approaches.
Are there any suggestions from folks who do this kind of search more often
than I do (which is only about twice a semester)?
If this topic is too nit-picky for general interest, please email
me directly.
