Thank you to all who responded to my query. Many requested that
I post the list for the benefit of others.
I've tried to include some of the comments as well. The titles are:
Passion for Art (Barnes collection). It covers a collection not easily
accessible to the public.
Art Historian (2 vol) recently received, but not yet seen by the staff
at Cincinnati Public Library. Frick Library owns vol 2 and reports
that the disc includes notebook feature for adding comments and a
self-test section. More info by emailing: [log in to unmask]
Art History 1 and 2 (Reindeer Co) very good general survey. Recommended
for teen through adult audience. Organized by period...may compare
images side by side. Images very good, but architecture a little
dark. Includes text notes and audio.

The Louvre. "a nice virtual tour of the museum",but selective -
approx. 300 works from 1350-1870, French paintings only.
Microsoft ART GALLERY (National Gallery, London). good overview of
western art (2000 images). Descriptions and biographies are brief,
but does include extra info that may be of interest to general
public or beginning students.
Several responses included a reference to New York Times article
"Art lovers cool to lures of cd-roms" (July 23/98 p.G6)
My searches in review journals included the following:
History through art series (Zane Publishing) 14.94 ea. or 69.95 for
set of nine). Mixed reviews
Electronic Learning May-June, 1996, v.15n6:56(4)
Library Journal Sept 1, 1997, v.122n14:228(1)
With Open Eyes: Images from the Art Institute of Chicago
Publishers Weekly, Aug 7, 1995, v.242n32:319(2)
Internet searches provide titles, but little information:
Encyclopedia of Western Art
Great Museums of Europe, part 1 and 2
above titles available at Daiichi internet site
Eight other titles which were more specialized were listed at
Brooklyn Museum. More info, email: [log in to unmask]
Hope this helps others.
