Regarding the inquiry about the fellow peeking through the sky at the gears of
the universe...
Perhaps your patron is referring to the print that is reproduced, in one
instance at least, on the cover of Daniel J. Boorstein's _The Discoverers_. NY:
Random House, 1983. The identification of the print is given as "early 16th
century woodcut" "courtesy of Bettmann Archive" [now Corbis]. In this
illustration, rather than lifting up a corner of the sky, the awestruck fellow
is actually poking his head through the dome-shaped cover. [Has anyone seen
"The Truman Story"? A similar concept!]
