Dear Colleagues,
I am looking for information regarding an auction or estate
sale in Newport, RI on February 21, 1915. I am told that
the estate being sold was that of a railroad baron who had a
mansion in Newport. I would like to know who the estate
belonged to, which house it might have been and who the
dealer was, etc. I have tried various local resources but
so far they have not been able to help. Unfortunately, we
are unable to search SCIPIO so I have been unable to
determine if there was an auction catalog for this sale.
I also need to verify an item that might have been
part of that sale. There is supposed to have been a bronze
19th c. figurative sculpture by Mathurin Moreau depicting
"harvesters", that was sold that day. If there is a
catalog, would someone be able to check it for this piece?
I realize this is asking a lot, but if anyone can help, I
will be most grateful. Please respond directly to my email
address.
