Collegues,
When I arrived back from Philadelphia, there was an urgent message on my desk
asking for information needed for next week's accreditation visit. If only I'd
known last week! Are there any kind of standards pertaining to the quantity of
slides in a collection for an architecture/design institution? Surprisingly,
we've never had much complaint from NAAB or FIDER as to our deficiency. But
now, administration is asking for the regional accreditation. As I mentioned
to some of you at VRA & ARLIS last week, I have been trying to push this point
through to the powers that be, that >15,000 slides is nowhere near sufficient
for a School of Design the size of ours (around 500 students). There is no
effort to expand at all - which always leads me to ask, which 3 Picassos do you
want, and which one view of FLW's Falling Water?
I know I have looked before for some kind of standard such as this, and I think
I've heard others of you talk about it. Does such an animal exist? You know
how administration and accreditation like to see numbers. Is there anything I
can give them?
If nothing else, I would appreciate if some of you with collections could send
me (NOT THE LIST) the approximate number of slides in your collection and the
number of students you serve.
Thanks very much,
Marti Pike
