To Jill McConkey:
I don't know if any of her work is reproduced anywhere, but Sister Gertrude
Morgan, Louisiana self-taught artist, naive, has marvelous paintings of
black angels, sometimes all in flight with her other favorite, white angels
with red hair. See her entry in the WORLD ENCYCLOPEDIA OF NAIVE ART
(Secaucus NJ: Chartwell Books, 1984). The entry mentions the fact that she
has been the subject of documentary films on naive artists several times.
Hope this helps. Suzanne Freeman, Fine Arts Librarian, Va. Museum of Fine
Arts

We have a patron who is looking for images of black angels. We have tried
several angel books without success. Suggestions will be much appreciated.
