Greetings,
One fulltime cataloging position is available with Library Systems and
Services (LSSI) on a continuing contract with the Smithsonian's National
Museum of American Art. The SOS! (Save Outdoor Sculpture) project is being
conducted at the NMAA's Research and Scholar Center in Judiciary Square in
downtown Washington, DC. We are looking for a qualified, hard working
individual who'll adhere to the very exacting specifications that the project
requires.
Candidates should have an MLS, or be near completion. Cataloging or art
backgrounds are preferable, but not necessary -- a variety of backgrounds can
work. The NMAA offers strict SOS! guidelines and procedures that must be
diligently learned and adhered to -- but do not necessarily follow LC or
AACR2. Knowledge of MARC, good writing and keyboarding skills are essential.
Training and "warmup" take about three months.
This is a fascinating project, but like the Marines, it's not for everyone.
It involves a great deal of hard work and attention to detail.
Beginning salary is $28,750. LSSI offers competitive benefits including sick
leave, annual leave, holidays, insurance, educational assistance, and a
401(K) plan.
If you're interested in this position, please e-mail your resume or a summary
of your qualifications with a cover letter to Brian Judge (Project Director)
