There is an interesting article in The Art Newspaper, No. 69, April 1997, p.
14:
"Briatain's National Art Library is full; V & A library may occupy the old
Public Record Office; the curators are reluctant, but a move seems
unavoidable."
The PRO is a Victorian building in Chancery Lane, just off Fleet Street and
close to the Courtauld Institute. Apparently the NAL is nearly full taking
15km of shelf space, and the PRO would provede 42km, allowing for 23 years of
growth. If agreement is reached, planning would take 18 mo and conversion work
4 years.
