We have a CDP (Copy Duplicating Products) CC25 color copier, serviced by the
University Libraries copy center. We also have two black and white only
copiers.
1. We have not had any significant problems with this copier. In fact, it
seems to me it gives us less trouble than the other two.
2. Price is 50 cents per copy.
3. Yes, ours is self service. No, there have been no problems about that.
4. Occasionally the color is really poor on a first copy, but perfectly okay
when redone without adjusting the color. This is probably after long
periods of being idle. We've had ours now for two or three years, and all
the potential problems I worried about haven't happened, with a moderate
level of use. We do not have any attachments either, though.
5. I don't think you need to worry about black and white copying on the color
machine. At 50 cents a copy, most students wouldn't do it. Our copy
service, though, has put a sign on it saying it makes color copies only -
which is not true; there are two print buttons, one for color and one for
b/w.
6. Our machine is VERY noisy warming up, but not particularly noisy at other
times. We are fortunate in having the machines behind a row of stacks
which muffles the sound anyway. Our biggest complaint is that the trash,
bad copies and trimmings, sometimes get out of hand. I want to (but won't)
put up a sign that says, "Pick up your own trash. Your mother isn't around"
7. We don't have a sign, and don't have much of a problem. If the machine is
obviously not functioning well, I will make another copy using the library's
card (comes out of the same pot eventually) We do not handle money; users
have to go to the copy center in our central library - about 5 minutes away
- to get refunds for money stuck in the machines, no copy, or a bad copy.
Amazingly few grouse about that.
I do find, as with our online services, that the users often are more savvy
than I. I do have one staff memeber with real expertise; when she is not
available, we rely on Copy Service. There are very few things about which
I say, "It's not in my job description", but this is one.
