TO: Readers of ARLIS-L
FROM: Elizabeth O'Keefe, Chair, ARLIS/NY Chapter
SUBJECT: Tour of H.W. Wilson/Art Index, Feb. 3
ARLIS/NY members are invited to visit the H.W. Wilson Company
on Monday, February 3. The visit will begin at 11 a.m. with a tour
of H.W. Wilson's headquarters in the Bronx. After lunch (supplied
by our hosts), we will view a demonstration of Wilson's electronic
products, and Alison Dickey will talk about abstracting and
indexing methods at the Art Index. The visit will conclude at
about 3 p.m.
The number of visitors is limited to thirty, so RSVP as soon
as possible (the deadline is Friday, Jan. 24th) to:
Maria Oldal (phone: 212-685-0008, Ext. 339 or email: bm.pmc@
rlg.org).
TRAVEL INSTRUCTIONS:
Take the #1 (IRT West Side) to the W. 181st Street stop, or
the D train or #4 train to the 161st Street, River Avenue
Station (the Yankee Stadium stop). Then take a taxi (walking
isn't recommended) to Sedgwick Avenue and 162nd Street, where
the back entrance of H.W. Wilson is located. Or you can catch
the #13 (Ogden Avenue) bus at either subway stop; get off at
W. 162nd Street on Ogden Avenue and walk west one block to the
back entrance of the Wilson Company. Be warned, though, that
bus service is not very frequent, so you will probably prefer
to take a cab instead.
The back entrance is on the fifth floor; the person at the desk
will be expecting us. Go up to the seventh floor conference
room, using the elevator or stairs to the right behind the
reception desk. Tours will start from the seventh floor at 11:00
a.m.
Look for a mailing on the tour, which will contain a map
as well as travel instructions. And don't miss this chance
to see the home of Art Index and other indispensable tools
of our trade!
