In preparation for moving to a new library building in 1997,
I am interested in hearing how other information specialists
manage special collections.
The Art & Design special collection at Nottingham Trent University
LIS contains approximately 6000 items. It is particularly rich in
sourcebooks, monographs and journals of nineteenth century art and
design. There is a substantial lace collection which includes published
works on lace, portfolios of lace samples and lace pattern books.
Many lace items were donated to the Art College Library by local
lace manufacturers.
Currently the Art & Design special collection forms part of an off-site
store and only part of it is catalogued on our OPAC. We have retained
a card catalogue to the collection, but this is also incomplete. In
our new library we have dedicated space for the special collection and
I'd appreciate your comments concerning:
1) Access
2) Staffing
3) Organisation
4) Conservation
5) Promotion
Thanks in advance.
