The Fine Art Museums of San Francisco have decided to expand their exhibition
space to include the Web. As they say in their intro, their goal is by means
of the Web to have 100% of their collection on exhibit rather than the usual
10% . They therefore have put their entire image database, which Bob
Futernick, Conservator for the Achenbach collection compiled of that graphic
art collection, on their web site. http://www.thinker.com. Check it out.
Its not only an interesting concept its a great resource. The Collection
itself is 60,000 images and the museums are busy continuing to digitize the
rest of their collections.
