CIRCULATION SUPERVISOR
The Circulation Supervisor's main duties are to supervise
and facilitate the use of library resources by students,
faculty and staff. This includes the daily running of the
Circulation desk, managing the periodical and reference
areas, maintaining the faculty reserve collection of books
and photocopies, supervising and training a rotating staff
of student workers, overseeing the shelving of books
in all
areas of the library and answering reference questions.
This position occasionally entails substituting for staff in
other areas such as the Slide Library, Audio/Visuals and the
library's computer lab. This is a full time position with
occasional weekend shifts. Reports to Library Director.
Position includes health benefits, pension and dental plan.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1) Daily public service operations of the Circulation
Desk: Book check-out, returns, renewals and related
functions.
2) Answering telephone and in-person requests for
information with assistance from the Reference Staff.
3) Supervising and training student assistants in the
operations of the Circulation desk.
4) Maintaining statistics on borrowing/acquisition of
circulating materials.
5) Ordering, claiming and binding of periodicals.
6) Maintaining student/faculty/staff borrowing records;
sending overdue notices; working with the registrar to withhold grades
for delinquent borrowers.
7) Selecting, classifying and ordering new audiocassettes
for the music collection.
8) Recording and arranging financial transactions
connected to Circulation (overdue fines, fees and
other miscellaneous charges).
9) Performing basic maintenance (changing cartridges of
toner, adding paper, clearing paper jams) on
the library's photocopy machine; reporting problems to
service agency.
10) Overseeing the organization and development of the
Picture File and Vertical File
11) Maintains the organization and display of books rented
through the McNaughton company.Suggests titles for purchase
in this collection of popular reading materials.
12) Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Previous library/museum experience
and/or art background required. Supervisory experience
desirable. Good writing and communication skills. Must
like working with people in a busy public service
environment. Flexibility and willingness to learn new
skills. Basic knowledge of computers (word processing,
internet or database) highly desirable.
