To: Professional librarians interested in a one-year cataloging project
From: Katie McLauchlin, Librarian, Tampa Museum of Arts Judith Rozier
Blanchard Library and Media Resource Center
Date: July 15, 1996
The Tampa Museum of Art has applied for a grant for the 96/97 fiscal year
(beginning October 1) which continues a salary for a professional
librarian, operating expenses, and money to complete a retrospective
conversion of the existing collection which includes approximately 12,000
titles. The Tampa Museum of Art's Judith Rozier Blanchard Library and
Media Resource Center had its grand opening in December 1995. The library
was originally made possible with a grant and matching funding from the
Arts Council of Hillsborough County and the Rozier/Blanchard family and
friends. This second grant, if approved, will provide enough funding to
purchase an online catalog and cataloging records for the library's
collection of monographs, exhibition catalogues, auction catalogues, and
periodicals. Steps for converting and cataloging the collection are in
place and are merely awaiting funding and implementation. Because the
position will be funded by a grant, there is no guarantee that funding
will be found for the proceeding 97/98 fiscal year. In addition to
administering the grant and cataloging the collection, the position will
also involve other aspects typical of one-person libraries (the current
librarian is having to move to Boston with her husband who has been
transferred with his company) including but not limited to managing
volunteers, providing research and reference services, circulation
management, conservation, and collection development. The museum cannot
officially begin interviewing candidates until the grant is approved
(which may be as late as October 1) but is interested in hearing from
interested parties. Requirements for the position would include an M.L.S
from an accredited library school and basic cataloging experience and/or
working knowledge of OPACs. If you are interested or know of any
potential candidates, please send a resume and letter of interest to Emily
