POSITION: Manager of Computer Information Systems, San Francisco Museum of
Modern Art

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: 3 June 1996

SCHEDULE: 35 hours/week (includes benefits)

POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Manager
of Computer Information Systems is responsible for the evaluation,
implementation and administration of database management systems, client/server
hardware and software, and local and wide area networking hardware and software.
The Manager of Computer Information Systems negotiates contracts between the
Museum and hardware and software vendors; functions as project leader in the
design of systems and operating procedures for information systems projects;
conducts complex systems analysis activities; works with vendors in computer
applications research; coordinates the purchase of computer equipment and
software application packages; coordinates the installation of desktop
workstations; and supervises the work of assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and coordinate the implementation and installation of relational
database management systems, including Sybase, Universe and Fourth Dimension.
Provide system and network administration services to maintain data integrity
and networking performance. Confer with user departments to determine system
requirements for the implementation of new and the modification of existing
information systems.

Implement and manage the Museum-wide TCP/IP, AppleShare, and Novell Ethernet and
FDDI and other network operating systems. Assist in the monitoring of disk
space, maintenance of file integrity, monitoring and follow-up on error
messages, backing up of systems, and the installation of system upgrades.

Conduct feasibility studies and prepare cost analyses for information system
products and provide project implementation schedules and periodic progress
reports to Senior Staff, the Finance Committee and the Board of Trustees.

Act as the Museum liaison with computer hardware and software vendors and
participate in the negotiation of contractual agreements for the acquisition of
computer equipment.

Assist Museum staff in all aspects of computer services including the
coordination of user training sessions, ordering of supplies and the conduct of
troubleshooting activities to resolve file server, network and workstation
problems.

Establish and maintain an inventory system of computer hardware and software.

Hire, assign, schedule and review the work of subordinate staff.

Perform other related duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited
college or university with a major in Accounting, Business Administration,
Computer Science or a closely related field. Graduate course work in Business
Administration, Computer Information Systems or Telecommunications preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum three years of full-time or its equivalent experience
in the design, implementation and management of automated systems and procedures
used to process fiscal, statistical and record-keeping data.

Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of
computer information systems analysis and design. Ability to develop and
implement computer systems and procedures. Ability to advise and assist staff in
the use of systems and software applications. Ability to schedule and do cost
estimating for systems projects. Ability to work independently, using good
judgment as to appropriate course of action. Ability to prepare clear and
concise written reports and make effective oral presentations. Ability to
establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
