Sidney Williams Internship at the Palm Springs Art Museum
The Sidney Williams Internship at the Palm Springs Art Museum was established in 2017 in honor of the
contributions and long-time service to the museum of former Director of Education and Founding
Curator of Architecture and Design Sidney Williams. The Sidney Williams Internship Fund, made possible
through the generosity of numerous donors, enables the museum to offer an annual summer internship
to a graduate student interested in architecture, design, art, and museum studies.
Each year, an intern will be selected through an application and interview process to work closely with
the museum’s Director of Architecture and Design, Archivist/Librarian, and other museum staff
members on a project that relates to the museum’s architecture and design programs, collections, and
architectural assets. The intern will gain invaluable research skills and experience working with primary
documents, including architectural drawings, models, and other objects, from the museum’s archives
and collections. In addition to being involved with a project that has a specific outcome, such as an
exhibition, publication, completion of an archive’s cataloguing or digitization, the Sidney Williams Intern
will gain valuable insight and experience in museum work across many departments of the museum,
including collections and exhibitions management, education, advancement, and marketing and
communications.
Who can apply?
The internship is open to graduate students with priority given to those with a focus on architectural
history, historic preservation, architecture, design history, and material culture studies.
Application process
Applicants must either be currently enrolled in a graduate university degree program or have graduated
within the last year. Please send a current curriculum vitae, your current academic transcript, the names

Internship period and funding
The Sidney Williams Intern is expected to be in residence in Palm Springs for a period of 2 to 2-1/2
months over the summer, ideally for the months of July and August. The museum will not provide
housing for the intern but will provide suggestions about accommodation in Palm Springs.
The intern will receive a stipend of $4000, which will serve as an honorarium and as a stipend to help
cover living expenses while the intern is in residence in Palm Springs.
It is not necessary for the intern to have a car although a driver’s license will be useful for exploring Palm
