Hello again!
Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous email about classification systems in art libraries, and just general advice on working in art libraries. All of it was much appreciated!
I have another question to pose to the group. In my survey of my museum’s current library/archive situation, I’ve learned that the software they use—ResourceMate—will no longer be supported after the middle of next year (the version the museum has is rather old). There are various newer versions offered by ResourceMate, but most of them come with an item limit. If you want to catalog more items, you have to pay additional fees. In talking with their support staff I’ve been told that because we already use an older version of the software, we could be grandfathered in with the number of items we currently have cataloged plus an additional 1000 items. Which would be wonderful except that only 2000 of the roughly 18,500 items in the library are actually entered into ResourceMate. This to me makes the case for sticking with ResouceMate less cut and dry.
So my question is two-fold:
First, has anyone out there worked with ResourceMate? What was your experience with it?
And secondly, for any libraries of a similar size to mine (18.5K items), what systems have you worked with? What’s the good, what’s the bad? Bonus points to any that can accommodate archives collections as well!
Thanks again for all your help!
Katie Bliss
