Museum Appoints Director of Library and Archives
Following the conclusion of a national search, the Philadelphia Museum
of Art is pleased to announce that Kristen A. Regina has been appointed
as the new Arcadia Director of the Library and Archives. She succeeds C.
Danial Elliott, who recently retired.
Ms. Regina will assume her new duties on June 1, 2015. She currently
serves as Head of Archives and Special Collections at the Hillwood
Estate, Museum & Gardens in Washington, DC where she has been
responsible for the management, oversight and implementation of
strategic initiatives for the art research library and digital
collections as well as the archives, which include significant holdings
of architectural plans, manuscripts, monographs, oral histories, films,
photographs and transparencies.
During her tenure at Hillwood, she served as the Chief Art Librarian,
from 1998 to 2009 and Head of Research Collections and Archivist from
2010 to 2013. Among the many initiatives she undertook were the
restructuring of the library, archives and visual resources departments,
and a collaboration with Hillwoods information technology staff to
prioritize digital initiatives while updating their image rights and
reproductions contract to manage their 100,000 digital assets and
implement a creative commons license. She also worked with IT staff to
establish institutional technology protocols and create informal
sandbox labs to serve as project incubators and support the
development of new cooperative efforts.
In addition, Ms. Regina co-founded a Publications Committee to explore
digital publishing projects, established a position for a National
Digital Residency Fellow and partnered Hillwood with the Google Art
Project, Artsy.net, and Artstor on content creation and access projects.
She also organized an exhibition based on the librarys collection of
Romanov Coronation Albums, and supplemental programming and interpretive
technologies in concert with American University, the New York Public
Library and Apple iTunes.
Kristen Regina has published and presented on professional issues, and
been the recipient of grant funding and professional development and
recognition awards. She is incoming President-Elect of the Art Libraries
Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) and has chaired and moderated
ARLIS/NA committees and divisions. She is also current President of the
Washington Art Library Resources Committee (WALRC) and a member of the
