ARLIS Friends,
Can you please help me with the inquiry below? I suggested he inquire with
the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries at the Art Institute of Chicago or the
Avery Architectural Library at Columbia University. Any other thoughts?
Thank you.

Subject: Inquiry
Good afternoon Pauline,
I am with the relatively newly formed “Historic Ford Estates” which now
oversees both the Henry Ford Estate, Dearborn, MI and the Edsel & Eleanor
Ford House, Grosse Pointe Shores, MI. We took ownership of the Henry Ford
Estate (historically called Fair Lane) from the University of Michigan a
year ago last June. We are working now on raising many, many dollars for
restoration, reinvention, endowment support, etc. It is currently closed to
the public as we conduct our discovery and research.
Specifically, I am overseeing the restoration efforts. One of the most
valuable documents we have uncovered is an article published by the
architect, William Van Tine of Pittsburgh, who published an article and
images soon after completion of the estate in a magazine called Architecture
in March, 1916. I am attached a poor copy of it for your review. I have
tried to locate an original copy of this magazine but I can find VERY little
about the magazine.
I was hoping two things…the first if you had any ideas of where I might
search to locate an original copy and if you have even heard of this and
two, is there a distribution list of colleagues (or your membership) that I
might share this quest with as I am sure they would be much more informed
than myself.
Any assistance or suggestions would be very, very appreciated.
Best wishes,
Mark
