Dear colleagues,
Notes from the Systems Meet-up in Pasadena follow. Thank you to the meeting attendees for reviewing these notes and jogging my memory to flesh them out. If anyone has further additions or corrections, please send them along.

Systems Meet-up Notes
2013 ARLIS/NA Conference, Pasadena, CA
April 28, 4:30-5:30 pm
Purpose: Ad-hoc meet-up to discuss systems, the ILS marketplace, integration, challenges, successes, etc.
Survey Results
Twenty participants attended the meeting, which focused on the presentation of an infographic of the 2013 ARLIS Systems Survey responses. The infographic can be found at:
http://tinyurl.com/2013arlissystems
The full response of the survey results will be posted to the ARLIS listserv following the conference.
Action Item: Lily will follow up with those survey respondents that indicated they would like to report on technical issues at next year’s conference.
Discovery Platforms
There was a brief discussion of discovery platforms. A discovery layer is an additional system that sits on top of the ILS, at additional cost. The group heard from Kirsty Wilson from the University of Auckland about their experience implementing Ex Libris’ Primo product, which has been positive. Their installation is at:
http://librarysearch.auckland.ac.nz/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?vid=UOA2_A
The Getty’s Primo installation is now available in beta: http://primo.getty.edu/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?&vid=GETTY
Getty is also using Alma and Rosetta Stone from Ex Libris.
NYARC is investigating both Primo and Summon from Serial Solutions to provide a format-agnostic search environment to unite print, electronic and web archive collections.
It was asked if TMS has been linked to a discovery system – no one was aware of this in the room.
Other Systems
Serial Solutions’ new library services platform called Intota (http://www.serialssolutions.com/en/services/intota) is still under development, but was mentioned as a system to watch. Serial Solutions is owned by Proquest.
WorldCat Local “quickstart” (http://www.oclc.org/worldcat-local/quickstart.en.html) is freely available to any library that has a FirstSearch subscription. It can be useful as a backup if your local system goes down (although item level data will not display if your local system is offline) or as an alternative to your OPAC.
RDA System Checklist
The group talked about creating a RDA system checklist to ready our current systems for RDA records. (It was noted that many of us already have RDA records in our systems – Arcade, NYARC’s catalog, had 700+ at last check without fully adopting RDA yet). The checklist will include things like adding new MARC fields to validation tables, load profiles, indexing rules, etc. The group thought a checklist would be helpful to distribute to the ARLIS community. This is minor tweaking of system configurations for RDA; vendors have not re-envisioned systems yet to work with RDA concepts. It was noted that III recently sent out a questionnaire to users to get feedback on potential uses of RDA in the future. This is an encouraging first step, but how vendors fully embrace RDA remains to be seen.
Action Item: Lily will draft an RDA systems checklist and forward it to meeting attendees for feedback before distributing to ARLIS-L
