Dear ARLISians,
I am researching the NY artist Isabella Vaill Waldo (1842-1929) and am trying to locate any of her existing paintings. A NYPL Librarian suggested I try this listserv.
She is best known for her portraits and landscapes, and for her 1885-6 paintings of life in Mexico. I know of 2 paintings held by the Jackson County Historical Society (Missouri), 2 by the Oregon Historical Society, and 1 by the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts (Maryland) – and her many illustrations in the 1887 book “Face to Face with the Mexicans” by Fanny Gooch.
Does anyone know of Isabel Waldo paintings held by any other museum/institution? The artist usually signs her name “I.V. Waldo” and was active as a professional artist from about 1870-1899. Although she spent most of her professional career in New York City, she also lived and painted in Connecticut, Ohio, Mexico, Italy, Paris, England and Scotland.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
