Dear ARLIS wisdom,
as some of you know, I've been building Facsimile Finder since last year.
In short, it's a (to-be) complete database of published hi-quality facsimile editions (usually called Fine Facsimiles, to differentiate them from the inexpensive ones).
While still a commercial project (I'm a bookseller specialized in facsimiles!), the idea is to offer a useful tools to the scholarly community, including librarians. Ideally, people come and find useful info for their research, either scholars working in the field of illuminated mss. or librarians in need to get clear idea of what's on the market (which I will then hopefully supply!)
Here comes my need for your help. I've recently followed the discussion about this new standard, RDA.
I am in the process of implementing EndNote export feature (maybe RefWorks too, maybe Zotero, if you suggest so) and also MARC records.
I thought: hey, scholars maybe want to download info on the facsimile for their bibliographies! Then, Endnote.
Then I thought: hey, maybe librarians would enjoy a concise (and precise) MARC record when they decide to buy something, so to have a basic cataloguing done.
Now, am I on the right track? Should I continue to implement EndNote and MARC or just wait to see what happen with RDA?
Please, note that, being a small business, it's a big effort to implement such feats, so I want to get it right at the first shot! :)
Facsimile Finder is here: www.facsimilefinder.com
Many thanks!
Giovanni
ps: not having a background in Library Science Studies, you will excuse me if I said something awfully wrong, ok?
