Dear ARLIS/NA,
We are considering removing our 3M security gate from the single entrance/exit of the Art + Architecture Library at Virginia Tech. I am interested in hearing from libraries that do not have security gates or have removed them after having them in the past. Have you seen an increase in missing materials without them? Do you use an alternative method of theft deterrence? Did you make a change in collection or circulation policies for any materials as a result? What response did "going gateless" elicit from patrons already familiar with the library?
Thanks!
Patrick Tomlin
