I replied to Joan directly, however I see that all of our communications
have also been shared with ARLIS-L so I hope you don't mind that I am
including ARLIS-L into my reply to your inquiry.

I agree that attendee lists can be very important for conference attendees.
When the Toronto planning committee (CPAC) meets in June, I am preparing to
discuss some ideas that I have about delivery of such lists at the
conference as well as before and after the event.  For example, I know that
when I attend a conference it is nice to see who else has registered in
advance so that I can make dinner plans with colleagues that I might only
see once a year.

That being said, the Society does have to be careful to respect individual
privacy rights/laws as well as aspects of the CAN-SPAM act.  So I will be
proposing a disclaimer and opt in/out functionality that will be included as
part of the online registration process.  I want all ARLIS/NA members to
know that we are sensitive to privacy rights while at the same time
providing all the tools for our conference attendees to have an engaging
conference experience.

I truly appreciate the feedback and look forward everyone's comments about

Chris,

I agree with Joan regarding both points.  It is always useful to have an
attendees list to refer to when one is at the conference; on the other hand,
it is very welcome now.  M
